Datacentre giant reveals secrets of future £80 million datacentre

London, UK, – 20th July, 2009 – Telehouse Europe today announced the launch of an online portal www.telehouse.net/en/west for its forthcoming Telehouse West datacentre. The new portal provides a window into Telehouse Europe allowing existing and prospective customers to keep up to date with the progress of the new state-of-the-art facility, which opens in March 2010.

Using the portal interested parties will be able to: review the latest news, products and services; download industry articles; source technical information; view a diary of construction; and watch the site evolve over the coming months via a webcam. Visitors can also subscribe to a newsletter to source additional information and make specific requests via the site’s online forum.

Commenting on the portal, Bob Harris, Technical Services Director at Telehouse Europe, said: “Organisations are often very particular about factors such as power, cooling and security but few ever analyse the building itself. We believe that the quality of the building is just as important and custom build each of our facilities. This helps to future proof the range of services we offer our customers. Telehouse West is a perfect example. The custom built state-of-the-art facility will add 19,000m² of datacentre space to the existing 100,000 m2 we provide as an organisation worldwide.”

“At Telehouse Europe we aim to be more transparent in the build of our data centres than any of our competitors, which is one of the reasons for providing a portal” said Dionne Aiken, Marketing Manager at Telehouse Europe. “We want our existing and potential customers to know from the outset what we are planning and how we are achieving it. By sharing this insight we believe that we will add further confidence in our services. The portal provides a single source of information regarding our flagship facility and will also allow us to enhance how we communicate with our data centre community.”

Telehouse West is the first purpose built green data centre and the first major facility to gain planning permission in London since stringent sustainability requirements were written into the City’s legislation. It has been designed to save up to 1,110 tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum and transform generated waste heat into energy for the local Docklands community: the first time a heat export strategy has been introduced in the UK for this type of datacentre facility.
