Telehouse London Docklands Campus Updates

We are excited to announce that our new administrative building is now beginning to take shape. This is an important milestone for us, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation during this construction period.

As part of our commitment to ensuring everyone’s safety, we have arranged for additional marshals from Flynn to be present around the construction perimeter. These marshals are there to help maintain a safe environment for all. If you are directed away from certain areas by these marshals, please adhere to their instructions promptly and without hesitation. Your cooperation is crucial in helping us manage the construction site safely and efficiently.

We understand that construction activities can be disruptive, and we are doing everything we can to minimise any inconvenience.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we work towards completing this exciting new addition to our facilities.

From 25/03/2024 until 22/04/2024, please note that the main access gate will be temporarily closed for vehicle entry. During this period, vehicles are kindly requested to use the exit gate on Blackwall Way for both entry and exit, and utilise the overflow car park for parking. Pedestrian access to Telehouse South will remain unaffected. This is for the essential groundworks required for the install of our new perimeter security fence, vehicle gates, road vipers and gatehouse. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Demolition of the existing administration building will commence on Tuesday, 12th March 2024. Demolition work is expected to be completed by the end of May in preparation for construction of the new administration building which we aim to complete in Q2 2025.

The building will feature high-quality office spaces, dedicated meeting rooms and leading-edge welfare facilities, including a cafeteria for customers, visitors and staff on-site.

A comprehensive plan is in place for construction of the new building, which includes demolition of the existing Administration Building situated between Telehouse East and Telehouse West. Our primary focus is to minimise disruption and ensure a smooth experience for our customers throughout this process.

A temporary security reception will be operational at the front gates, catering to all visitors. This will replace the existing security reception while construction activities are underway. We will be stationing additional security staff to assist with all queries visitors may have.
For all passengers of vehicles passing through security, we kindly ask that you exit the vehicles and enter the site through the pedestrian entrance.

Keys that were previously held at our security reception, can now be obtained from Key safes that have now been installed at our campus. You can access keys from the safes using your security badge. The safes are located in the following areas:

  • Telehouse North – 1st floor corridor, near passenger lifts
  • Telehouse North Two – Mezzanine lobby, directly left of the link bridge
  • West Traka Cabinet – 1st floor main corridor, located on the wall next to the TFM110 door

Our Service Desk team will be relocated to the ground floor of the modular offices, situated opposite the Administration Building. Clear signposts will guide you to the new Service Desk location.

We have secured limited additional parking for our customers, contractors and visitors, at the former Travelodge hotel site. As a reminder, on-site parking is available on a first come, first served basis.

We have created new entrances to each data centre building at our main London Docklands campus – Telehouse North, Telehouse East, Telehouse West and Telehouse North Two.

These entrances are fully secure and require pass authorisation for access.

Permanent pass holders will be able to use their existing passes to access the buildings via the new entrances.

Each new entrance is conveniently located at ground floor level, marked with prominent signage above the doors.

Telehouse is committed to providing its customers with the highest level of security at our London Docklands data centre campus. A programme of activities is in place to further enhance our physical security, which includes the installation of new gates at the main entrance to the campus in July.

Please continue to use the main gates during this time as normal, however please be aware you may be directed to an alternative entrance available on Oregano Drive. Access to site on foot via the pedestrian gate and turnstile at the main entrance will not be affected.

Vehicular access to the campus through the main gates may be restricted for short periods as indicated on the dates below:

  • Wednesday 12th July 2023 – approximately 2 hours
  • Monday 17th July 2023 – approximately 4 hours
  • Wednesday 19th July 2023 – approximately 2 hours

Today, global data centre service provider announces a collaboration with software provider EkkoSense, enabling the organisation to achieve an anticipated 461 tonnes reduction in CO2 carbon emissions at its Telehouse North site by the end of FY 2022.

Telehouse South Updates

Multinational construction and development company, Skanska, has been appointed as the contractor to deliver the first phase of the main works, which will include completing two floors of colocation space by Summer 2024. Telehouse South will increase power capacity to 30MVA and include implementation of efficient new MEPH infrastructure. Read more about the upgrade in our press release. 

We would like to make you aware of the construction works taking place at our Telehouse South data centre. Telehouse is undertaking these works to upgrade the security and to enhance the sustainability of our facilities. This project is due to be completed in March 2024.

As part of these construction works, we will be replacing the existing glazed façade from levels 5 to 7 with sustainable exterior cladding. This new cladding system will improve building insulation and will offer the highest level of security for our new data halls by eliminating visibility from the outside.

In addition, we are introducing an improved visitor management system, with the construction of new vehicle gates, fencing and a gatehouse located at the entrance of Telehouse South. This will enhance the experience for our customers and visitors when arriving on site and improve the security.

As well as these exterior construction works, we are on track to complete one floor of additional colocation space by February 2024, with a further floor to be completed closely after in Q2 2024. At full buildout, our 31,000 sqm facility will provide 12,000 sqm of colocation space and a total power capacity of 16MW.

We are making every effort to ensure that the construction works create minimal disruption, by including wayfinding signage, LED lighting and trained security personnel throughout the building.

Telehouse North Two Updates

We have installed water softeners to the IAC units at our North Two data centre, to enhance the operation of the system. In order to increase the resilience of the IAC units, we are also upgrading the UPS system that supports these units – the UPS capacity will be increased from 288kW to 540kW. The UPS system will be upgraded by February 2024.

By February 2024, we will have installed two new generators at our North Two data centre, bringing an additional 16.8MW of capacity. This will ensure that we have more than sufficient capacity to meet the growing demand for our services.


Telehouse West Updates

As part of a wider initiative to improve the PUE of our Telehouse West building our project team has installed 4no. air cooled chillers with free cooling systems in the building. All the chillers are available to be used in extreme ambient temperature. The new chillers can support the Telehouse West building IT load and external temperatures up to 50 degrees.

To improve the overall resiliency of the fuel control system at Telehouse West, we are upgrading the system with a dual redundancy control system.

Upgrading the fuel control system with dual redundant fuel pump control systems allows the following benefits.
• Increased system reliability and fault tolerance
• Enhanced operational continuity
• Improved maintenance and serviceability

This project was completed in Autumn 2024

A number of UPS systems for both the mechanical plant and IT cabinets are reaching their end of life (EOL) and are in the process of being replaced and upgraded.

The first phase of upgrades and replacements is for the UPS which are supporting the newly installed air-cooled chillers. The units have undergone a successful factory acceptance test in the factory located in Bologna.

The units are currently on site ready to be installed and commissioned.


Telehouse East Updates

To improve the PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of our Telehouse North and Telehouse East data centres, we have replaced the Glycol pumps with more efficient and modern models, operating at lower power consumptions.

One of the biggest power consumptions within data centre buildings are the water pumps that circulate chilled water throughout the building. Telehouse East previously used 4No. 132kW Pumps running as 2No. Systems down the building, with each of these systems operating in a N+1 configuration. These pumps have been replaced with 4No. 90kW variable speed Pumps, providing the same amount of flow rate at a lower power consumption.

In Telehouse North, 4No. 110kW Pumps served the building in an N+2 configuration. These pumps previously ran as a single system, serving the entirety of the building. To improve the efficiency, these pumps have also been replaced with 4No. variable speed 90kW Pumps.

The pump replacements project is just one of the steps we are taking to reduce our carbon footprint. For more information, click here.
