Head of Networks

JOB OVERVIEW

Lead the strategy, design, and operational performance of both internal and customer network infrastructure across Telehouse estate.

This role ensures the delivery of secure, resilient, and scalable network services that meet evolving business and KDDI security standards while also delivering network-related products and services across multiple European offices.

 

Main Duties, including but not limited to:

  • Define and lead the strategic direction for all internal and customer network infrastructure across our data centres and European offices, ensuring alignment with business and customer requirements
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of network architecture, driving innovation and standardisation across the organisation
  • Act as the organisation’s senior authority on network strategy, policy, and technical governance, ensuring robust, secure, and future-ready solutions
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional network initiatives in partnership with Infrastructure, Security, and other IT leaders, ensuring seamless integration and alignment with enterprise goals
  • Manage and support all internal network infrastructure across all buildings and European offices (TIE, KEU, etc.)
  • Maintain and configure routers, switches, VLANs, and all related customer and internal network components
  • Ensure firmware updates and lifecycle (EOL) replacement plans are executed and budgeted accordingly
  • Manage and maintain the Telephony system (ISDN, SIP) and internal internet access
  • Establish and maintain robust backup, redundancy, and disaster recovery processes for all network services
  • Lead the ongoing enhancement of network security posture, including oversight of detection and monitoring tools and resolution of vulnerabilities in partnership with the Cyber & Tech Security team; manage tools such as FireEye and Systems Observer
  • Collaborate with security colleagues to address and close any identified network security issues
  • Own delivery of network projects, including participation in procurement, budgeting, and KDDI security assessments
  • Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing network function, ensuring team capabilities evolve with business needs and technological change

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a computer-related field and relevant certification such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP
  • Deep expertise in Windows Server, TCP/IP, routing, SANs, Active Directory, encryption, firewalls, and system monitoring
  • Proven experience designing and managing resilient, secure, and high-availability network environments supporting both internal operations and customer services
  • Strong grasp of network security best practices and technologies, including firewalls, segmentation, intrusion detection/prevention, and encryption
  • Hands-on experience implementing IT security tools and techniques; knowledge of Information Governance
  • Solid understanding of core internet protocols
  • Demonstrated ability to lead network audits, risk assessments, and compliance with standards such as ISO 27001 and PCI-DSS
  • Proficiency in budgeting, procurement, and cost optimisation related to networking infrastructure
