Ultraspeed accelerates business growth at Telehouse Europe

Ultraspeed is a leading provider of managed hosting solutions, with a wide array of customers including FTSE 100, local government, media companies and web developers. It also provides wholesale hosting solutions to some of the largest independent virtual hosting companies in the UK. Founded in 1998, Ultraspeed has become renowned for offering customers a broad range of solutions, from a single, dedicated server to entire managed platforms spread across three continents. In May 2007 the company launched its Diskless Server System (DSS) – the world’s first hosted platform to remove hard disks, the primary cause of failure, from customer servers. Instead, Ultraspeed uses a ‘storage area network’ (SAN) to provide the operating system, applications and data storage.

Challenge
In summer 2006 Ultraspeed decided to relocate its equipment to a different colocation facility in the UK, to improve its service offering with better equipped, more secure facilities. As continuity of service is paramount to a hosting provider, Ultraspeed needed to find a colocation provider that could guarantee the high levels of connectivity. In order to identify the best colocation provider, Ultraspeed carried out a stringent assessment of potential facilities, visiting over ten data centres in London.
Solution
Ultraspeed selected Telehouse Europe for its proven reliability and market leading data centres. As the longest established provider of reliable data centre facilities in the UK, Telehouse Europe’s sites in London Docklands and the financial district offered a strong base for Ultraspeed’s hosting offering. Telehouse would also become home to Ultraspeed’s main IT infrastructure, which supports mission-critical business functions such as 24x7 customer service and support.
Jordan Gross, commercial director of Ultraspeed comments, “Telehouse emerged as the most experienced, trustworthy partner of data housing, and offered the highest levels of reliability in the industry. Both facilities are world class, and the fact that Telehouse hosts all the major ISPs demonstrates its continued strength of service.”
The Telehouse colocation centres offer an ideal operational environment including uninterruptible power supply (UPS), generator back-up and state-of-the-art cooling for Ultraspeed’s suite of over 20 servers. In addition, Telehouse provides high levels of physical security including fire detection, video surveillance, perimeter detection equipment and card reader access control so that Ultraspeed’s infrastructure is safe.
Telehouse Europe engineers also act as Ultraspeed’s remote ‘hands and eyes’ in response once an issue is escalated to them. Minor IT issues, such as rebooting a server, are dealt with by Telehouse’s trained engineers as part of its managed services, providing added convenience to Ultraspeed.
The location of the date centres has been a key benefit to Ultraspeed. With its London sites being geographically dispersed, Ultraspeed is able to support customers requiring disaster recovery. As a major internet hub, Telehouse provides Ultraspeed with unrivalled connectivity and easy access to international Tier-1 carriers such as Abovenet, Interoute and TeliaSonera.
Results
Establishing Telehouse as its trusted colocation provider has enabled Ultraspeed to build its business of providing premium hosting at a competitive price. Reliability of service at Telehouse has been the key to Ultraspeed’s ongoing success, enabling the hosting provider to deliver uptime of over 99.99%. With a dependable solution in place, the Ultraspeed business continues to evolve, including the recent launch of its diskless server platform which has increased Ultraspeed’s customer base, extending its footprint with Telehouse.
Robert Harris, technical services director at Telehouse Europe concludes, “In working with Telehouse, Ultraspeed has managed to provide superior continuity and customer service, further establishing its reputation as a leading hosting provider. Telehouse continues to reinvest money on an ongoing basis into our facilities to ensure organisations like Ultraspeed have a solid partner to support their growth.”
