Awards highlight Telehouse’s commitment to quality and information security

Telehouse Europe, leading vendor-neutral co-location provider, today announced it has been awarded ISO 9001: 2000 certification for its commitment to quality and ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification for its information security management security systems (ISMS). As ISO, (the International Organisation for Standardisation) is internationally recognised, its certifications demonstrate to the data centre community and Telehouse’s customers that the company adheres to the highest possible standards in its operational practices.

The ISO 9001 is the most commonly used international standard for the framework for an effective quality management system. The quality management system ensures consistency and continual improvement of working practices, which in turn will help Telehouse to continue to provide services that meet its customers’ requirements, operationally, commercially and technically.

The ISO/IEC 27001 is compatible with the ISO 9001 certification and is the specification that proves an organisation has developed a best-in-class ISMS (information security management system). The basic objective of the standard is to help establish and maintain an effective information management system, using a continual improvement approach. It implements OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) principles, governing security of information and network systems. Bob Harris, Technical Services director, Telehouse Europe, commented, “These certifications demonstrate our ongoing commitment to carrying out a best code of practice, by our customers’ and regulatory bodies’ standards, in our daily quality and security processes.”
Bureau Veritas QI provided an independent assessment of Telehouse’s quality management system and information security management and recommended it for certification.

The ISO (International Standards Organisation), a network of national standards institutes from 148 countries, has 156 members. In addition to the ISO 9001 family, it has published more than 15,900 standards. ISO 9001 is the source of the ISO 9000 family of quality management standards, the most highly regarded quality management standards in the world. Certification is independently assessed and the standards represent a commitment to quality.

The final version of ISO/IEC 27001 was published in October 2005 and is the first of a series of standards to support information security. It is considered by some to be the most important in the series, at least from a 'top down' perspective, as it defines the information security management system.
