Telehouse Europe joins the Internet Watch Foundation

Oct 8, 2004

Safe as houses

Telehouse Europe, Europe’s premier co-location provider, has joined the Internet Watch Foundation, helping to maintain the diverse IWF membership base and protect their own services from illegal online abuse.

The group’s principal activity is to provide customised IT Housing and management services, from its own secure facilities, primarily for telecommunication and internet related companies. They have facilities in London, Paris, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich.

Shinichi Suzukawa, Managing Director, Telehouse Europe:
"Telehouse Europe is very proud to be associated with the IWF's relentless campaign to combat illegal content online. The IWF has made great strides in the last few years to make the Internet a safer place for all and, as new members Telehouse is pleased to offer our full support so that this commendable work can continue."
The IWF has been in operation since 1997 and started with only 6 members. This number is now over 50.

The IWF members are organisations which create and provide the UK’s internet service including ISPs, mobile operators & software providers and they recognise the need for a pro-active attitude and tangible, realistic mechanisms in order to effectively combat illegal content. The IWF facilitates these mechanisms and in doing so, assists the protection of public internet consumers as well as online businesses and facilities.

Only this week, the Prime Minister gave recognition and praise to the work of the IWF: “…the UK has perhaps the world's best regime for tackling child pornography; the Internet Watch Foundation, and we continue to work closely with the industry, law enforcement agencies and children's charities to seek ways of protecting children from abuse….”

Telehouse Europe introduced the concept of a data centre into the UK and is now the home to most ISP’s, ASP’s, carriers and large corporate enterprises that need a secure environment for their servers and related IT equipment. Telehouse facilities are renowned as some of the most sophisticated international telecommunications hubs in the world complimented by a range of support and other services such as Managed Microsoft Exchange.

About The Internet Watch Foundation
The UK Internet Industry founded the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) in 1996. The IWF is uniquely placed in that it is the only authorised organisation in the UK that provides an Internet ‘Hotline’ for the public to report their exposure to illegal images online. It is strongly supported by the Government and Police to minimise the availability of illegal content on the Internet with particular reference to child abuse images originating anywhere in the world, criminally racist and criminally obscene content hosted in the UK. It operates independently of Government and receives no annual funding from it.

The major part of financial support for the IWF comes from organisations commonly associated with the internet, such as ISP’s, Telco’s, content providers, mobile operators and manufacturers and other relevant organisations.

The IWF, in partnership with many other organisations, has an education and awareness role so that, as more and more people make more and more use of the Internet, some of the problems of Internet use - particularly the risks to children - and the mechanisms for dealing with these problems are better known and understood.
